CBI Arrests Nirav Modi’s Close Aide Sandeep Mistry In PNB Fraud Case After Deportation From UAE

New Delhi (Raghwendra Pratap Singh) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sandeep Bharat Mistry, a close aide of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, upon his deportation from the UAE in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud probe, officials said on Tuesday.

The investigative agency in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) successfully secured the deportation of the Red Notice subject Sandeep Mistry from UAE to India, wanted in Nirav Modi PNB Bank Fraud case.

Sandeep Mistry, who was then a director of Fire Star Hong Kong – a company linked to Nirav Modi, is wanted in the PNB fraud case. He acted as a key link between various entities, overseeing their day to-day operations and issuing instructions through clandestine, self deleting communication platforms to conceal evidence.

As per the chargesheet, he also facilitated the preparation of forged import export documents to portray fictitious trade in diamonds, gold and pearl jewellery.

Along with other accused persons, Mistry coerced dummy directors of foreign companies by threatening them with arrest, relocating them to other places, seizing their electronic devices and compelling them to sign documents falsely portraying them as genuine owners of the companies.

He has also participated in siphoning off funds from the bank accounts of dummy companies in the UAE. The charge sheet in the case has been filed before the competent court.

At the request of CBI, a Red Notice was published in July 2026 against Mistry through INTERPOL channels. He was subsequently geo located and arrested by the UAE authorities and deportation process was initiated.
